Yingpan Shan 2023 – pressed white tea disc

From tea trees that have been propagated by seed (not by clonal selection). The processing is extremely simple and natural: stronger raw materials, clean white tea preparation, then pressing and aging. It comes from Yunnan province, from a family business.

According to the maker, this is one of the “most natural” teas you can make. And that’s exactly why it works: after a few years of resting, it has an extremely complex aroma, and the cup becomes sweeter, rounder, and calmer .

Origin – The history of Yingpan Shan in brief

Yingpan Shan is a tea area southeast of Pu'er city. The region was largely uninhabited for a long time, but with the opening up of the area in the 1990s, many Yunnan farmers moved here and started growing tea. Initially, there was more intensive plantation cultivation, mainly for the production of cheaper green tea.

In 2015, the government shifted part of the area to pesticide-free cultivation. This improved the quality, but the region did not become a “star area”, which is why this tea still offers particularly good value for money .

Flavor profile – what to expect in the cup?

  • Aroma: hay, dried flowers, slight honey, sometimes with a “puerhes” greenish undertone
  • Taste: softly sweet, gradually deepening, layered
  • Body: medium-full, smooth, round feeling
  • Finish: long-lasting sweetness, clean aftertaste

Maturation curve: fresher and more vegetal, after a few years the tea usually deepens , more fruity-honeyed sensations appear, and the texture also becomes silkier.

Wrapping

The tea comes in disc form. The manufacturer's packaging is typically a tong (7 pieces, 357 g each), the discs are double-wrapped . Inside is a white inner paper .

Preparation – 3 methods

1) Asian / gongfu (this preparation method is recommended)

  • Tea: 5g / 120ml
  • Water: 95–100 °C
  • Short rinse: optional (especially if the pressing is very tight)
  • Soaks: 15–20 seconds, then +5–10 seconds each round

2) Western (mug/teapot)

  • Tea: 2.5–3 g/250 ml
  • Water: 90–95 °C
  • Soaking: 3–5 minutes (taste at 3 minutes)
  • Recast: 1–2x still works, with a slightly longer time

3) Cold brew

  • Tea: 6–8 g / 1 liter
  • Time: 6–10 hours in the refrigerator
  • Result: clean, sweet, round – almost a “tea-lemonade” feel without the sugar

Storage

Keep it in a dry, cool, odor-free place. Pressed white tea develops beautifully: if you have the patience, it's worth "setting aside" some of it - it will thank you later.
