Matsu no Sono 松の園 Matcha - An introduction to the world of matcha

“Matsu no Sono” means “Garden of the Pines” – and indeed, this matcha is like a quiet stroll through the shady paths of a Japanese garden. With its light, fresh, slightly sweet taste, it is an ideal introduction to the world of ceremonial matchas.

This powdered green tea comes from the renowned Yoshida tea farm in Kyoto's Uji region , which has been renowned for decades for its precise shading and processing methods. The leaves of the tencha tea are ground using traditional, slow granite mills to a fine powder of 5–10 microns, creating matcha, which is consumed whole, unlike loose teas.

Flavor profile

  • Aroma: fresh, slightly herbal, clean green tone

  • Taste: soft, sweet, slightly nutty character

  • Aftertaste: fresh, crisp, slightly tart

  • Texture: silky powder, foams well, bright green color

Preparation suggestions

Usucha – thin matcha (for everyday use, for practice)

  • Tea powder: 1.5–2 g (approx. 2 chashaku)

  • Water: 60–90 ml, 75–85°C

  • Tip: use a strainer to sift the tea powder to avoid clumping

  • Prepared in a chawan teacup, froth with a chasen bamboo brush in “W” motions.

Useful tip:

The consistency and mixability of the powder are also improved if matcha is allowed to warm to room temperature before consumption.
