Wood-fired, disc-shaped tea cup
This cup is made in small batches, hand-rolled, and then fired at high temperatures in a wood-fired kiln . The path of the fire, the direction of the flame, and the deposition of ash create a different pattern on each piece – giving the cup a unique, living surface , while the inner drinking rim is smooth and comfortable.
Why will you love me?
- True uniqueness: natural ash glaze, yōhen (firing change) and subtle nuances that only wood burning can give.
- Comfortable shape: fits well in the hand, the rim is pleasantly thin - drinking from it is a pleasure.
- Tea-friendly interior: the smooth interior surface beautifully brings out the aroma and texture of teas.
- Versatile use: for tasting and everyday tea drinking; also suitable for oolong, green tea, black tea and puer.
Material & technique
- Stoneware, fired at a high temperature in a wood-fired kiln.
- Thin ash glaze and fire marks on the outer surface formed from natural ash deposits.
- Inner surface: smooth, comfortable to drink from; hand-rolled shape with a subtle fingerprint character.
Usage tips
- Rinse with hot water before first use.
- Warm the cup before drinking tea - this will help the aromas to develop better.
- Optional “tea initiation”: briefly rinse with a light brew (e.g. your first rinse of tea), then pour it out.
Care & cleaning
- Hand washing with lukewarm water is recommended. Avoid dishwasher and prolonged soaking.
- Do not use harsh scrubbing or chemicals; the tea patina is natural and aesthetic.
Important information
- Each piece is unique ; photos are illustrations - appearance, tone and volume may vary slightly.
- The small fire spots, ash kisses, and fine dots on the surface are not defects, but traces of wood burning.
This cup is a tool for calm, mindful tea drinking – an object on which the work of fire can be seen and felt .
Personal contact
Our teas don't come from wholesale warehouses or unknown sources. We travel to the small producers we source from – whether it's a Japanese family tea garden, a Chinese mountain village or an oolong maker in Taiwan.
Stories
We meet them in person, learn their story, see how they care for their plants, and how they process the fresh leaves.
These experiences are the soul of our teas. This way, not only is the quality guaranteed, but also the fact that behind each cup there is a real person, a real story.
Direct
This direct relationship is valuable to us. Not only because of the excellent tea, but because we believe that trust, respect and personal presence are what make the tea drinking experience truly special.
