Shunjū 朱松皮 Tokoname kyusu – 320 ml

This 320 ml red Tokoname-yaki kyusu represents a classic, functional form of Japanese tea ceremony. Its size is a comfortable choice for tea sessions for two to three people, when not just making a short, concentrated infusion, but wanting to share the tea more leisurely and generously during everyday tea drinking.

The unique feature of the teapot is the 朱松皮 surface: the warm tone of the reddish clay is complemented by a finely rustic texture reminiscent of pine bark. This matsukawa-like surface presents the teapot not as a smooth, sterile object, but gives it a more lively, nature- gần character. It's 'wabisabi,' as if the form wasn't just made, but slowly evolved in nature.

The works of the Shunjū workshop are characterized by a combination of traditional Tokoname form with refined usability. The side-handle design provides a stable, comfortable grip, and the wider body offers ample space for the tea leaves to unfurl beautifully during steeping.

Why do we love it?

  • 320 ml capacity: ideal for tea sessions for two to three people.
  • Tokoname-yaki ceramics: from one of Japan's most renowned teapot-making traditions.
  • Red clay character: warm, natural appearance, classic Japanese ambiance.
  • Pine bark-like surface: rustic, tactile, yet subtly elegant texture.
  • Ceramic filter: without a metal filter, for a more natural pouring feel.

What teas do we recommend it for?

This kyusu is particularly well-suited for Japanese green teas: sencha, kabusecha, bancha, karigane, and hojicha. Its 320 ml size also makes it practical when preparing tea for guests, or when looking for a reliable teapot for a longer, slower tea session.

The ceramic filter helps the tea leaves move naturally within the pot, while keeping the pour clean and easy to manage. This is especially important for Japanese green teas, where the leaves are smaller and more delicate, and proper filtration greatly contributes to the convenience of preparation.

Use and care

After use, rinse the pot with clean water, then leave it to dry completely without the lid. We do not recommend using dish soap, as the natural clay and the inner surface of the ceramic will subtly interact with the tea over time. A good kyusu not only prepares tea but slowly integrates into the rhythm of daily tea drinking.
