Miyaji Eikō Floral Crests Kyo-yaki Chawan – 300 ml

This 300 ml Kyo-yaki chawan from Miyaji Eikō's workshop brings the delicate, decorative world of Kyoto ceramics to everyday matcha preparation. The chawan features an ivory-colored, crackled glaze, adorned with three delicate motifs: red momiji, or Japanese maple leaves; red and white tsubaki, or camellias; and white and gold suisen, or narcissus.

The decoration is subtly festive: not overly flamboyant, yet immediately eye-catching. The flowers and leaves tell the quiet story of the changing seasons — autumn maple, winter camellia, early spring narcissus. A cup in which preparing matcha can become our daily ritual.

Form and Use

The chawan follows a classic Ninsei form: it has a slightly tapered body and a gently flared rim. This shape is stable, comfortable to hold, and provides ample space for preparing matcha. The 300 ml capacity is well-suited for preparing usucha, or thin tea, but the bowl's appearance also makes it beautiful for more festive occasions.

Why We Love It?

  • Kyo-yaki Ceramic: from the elegant, decorative tradition of Kyoto ceramic artistry.
  • From Miyaji Eikō's Workshop: an accessible, beautifully crafted Japanese chawan.
  • Floral and Maple Leaf Motifs: decorated with momiji, tsubaki, and suisen.
  • Crackled Ivory Glaze: a delicate, light base that highlights the painted details.
  • 300 ml Size: comfortable for matcha preparation and everyday use.

Who Do We Recommend It To?

We recommend this chawan to those who seek not only the drink but also the beauty of the movements in matcha preparation, the artistic beauty of the cup, and the dignity of the morning ritual. It can be a great choice as a first serious matcha bowl, but it's also a lovely piece for a collection, especially for those who appreciate floral, seasonal Japanese ceramics.

Use and Care

After use, rinse with clean, lukewarm water, then wipe dry with a soft cloth or let it air dry completely in a well-ventilated area. We do not recommend using a dishwasher or strong detergents.
