Hatsu Mukashi – The Taste of Beginnings

Soft, sweet, harmonious – matcha tea for everyday peace

Hatsu Mukashi (初昔) means “old beginning” – and indeed, this tea could be the perfect choice for your first matcha experience. This tea powder comes from the famous Uji region of Kyoto, where the art of matcha making has been preserved for generations.

Hatsu Mukashi matcha is selected and ground to be light, harmonious, and slightly sweet in taste – ideal for making usucha (thin matcha). Its soft character makes it especially recommended for those who are just getting to know this special Japanese tea culture or are looking for a reliable quality matcha that can be enjoyed every day.

The emerald green powder has a delicate texture, a fresh, herbal scent, and a pleasantly soft taste, reminiscent of white chocolate and fresh spring greens. It is accompanied by a long-lasting, slightly sweet aftertaste.

Flavor profile

  • Aroma: Fresh, slightly marine, with vegetable notes

  • Taste: Balanced, soft, slightly sweet, with minimal bitterness

  • Texture: Delicately creamy, smooth

  • Aftertaste: Clean, gently sweet

Recommended preparation (Usucha – thin matcha)

  • Matcha amount: 1.5–2 grams (about half a teaspoon)

  • Water: 70–80 ml, filtered water at 75–80°C

  • Preparation: Sift the matcha into a cup, then add the water and whisk with a chasen (bamboo whisk) until a nice green foam forms on top.

This matcha is ideal for a calm start to a morning, a moment before meditation, or even an afternoon de-stresser. If you're just opening the door to the world of matcha, Hatsu Mukashi will be your trusted companion for your first steps - and perhaps beyond.
