Gyokko shiboridashi - Tokoname, ~60-70 ml

A handmade, finely crafted shiboridashi from the Gyokkō kiln. A precise rim and lid ensure a nice, drip-free flow ; the design allows for relatively quick pouring - an excellent choice for premium sencha and gyokuro .

Why is it special?

  • Yōhen surface – a “flame-altered” glaze/firing effect; the temperature fluctuations in the kiln create a natural play of colors and unique patterns.
  • Tokoname tradition – the delicate proportions and functional aesthetics of a Japanese ceramic center.
  • Controlled pouring – precise rim and fitted lid for a clean, even flow.
  • Small volume – designed for concentrated, aroma-rich cups.

Recommended use

  • Gyokuro: 3–5 g / 70 ml, 50–60 °C, 90–150 sec; work in several short infusions.
  • Premium sencha: 3–4 g / 70 ml, 60–75 °C, 60–120 sec; experiment with temperature and time for the right balance of sweetness and umami.
  • Pouring: pour evenly, slightly tilting the lid – the rim provides a quick, clean flow.

Specification

  • Capacity: approx. 70 ml.
  • Origin: Tokoname, Japan.
  • Design: shiboridashi (jug body + lid, with internal ribs to retain the leaf).
  • Surface: yōhen – with a unique play of color and light.

Care

  • Cleaning: rinse with fresh water after use; no detergent required.
  • Drying: Leave to dry completely with the lid open.
  • Avoid thermal shock (sudden changes from cold to hot), do not use on direct flame.

Each piece has a slightly different pattern due to hand-making and the yōhen effect - this is what makes it unique.
