Gaiwan – handmade tea making tool by ceramist Ági György Nagy (~130 ml)

Hand-rolled, unique gaiwan with a turquoise gradient glaze. The classic Chinese utensil is a cup, teapot and lid all in one: it gives free space for the leaves, while the lid allows for a clean, controlled pour by gently turning it.

Why is it special?

  • Handcrafted uniqueness – each piece is slightly different, the handprint and the play of glaze make it personal.
  • Precise pouring – well-shaped rim and lid for drip-free, confident pouring.
  • Clean aesthetics – turquoise gradient glaze, harmonious, calming appearance.
  • Neutral surface – the glaze does not absorb flavors, can be used for a wide variety of teas.

Usage tips

  • Preheating: rinse with hot water to stabilize the temperature.
  • Tip: hold the lid with your index finger, slightly tilt it, strain and pour. "3 dragons guard the gate". :-)
  • Steeping (gaiwan style): 5 g / 100 ml to start; 90–95 °C (oolong/black), 75–85 °C (green), 85–90 °C (white). Start short, 10–20 seconds, then gradually increase.

Specification

  • Capacity: approx. 130 ml.
  • Material: hand-rolled, high-temperature fired, glazed ceramic.
  • Color/glaze: turquoise gradient; each piece's pattern is unique.
  • Recommended teas: oolong, green and white – they show their best face with multiple infusions.

Care: Hand cleaning with lukewarm water and a soft sponge is recommended. Avoid thermal shock (ice water in a hot pot and vice versa), do not use on direct flame/hotplate.
