Gyokuro Gokou

5 600 Ft

Mr. Ookawa’s family-run business and teas have impressed us this year in Japan.
Due to our good personal experience, we also recommend this tea to everyone. Ujitawara is a nice place. There are white egrets in the rice fields and the emerald green tea plants are reflected in the water.
It is a special kind of gyokuro harvested in front of our nose in many ways, a “kind, a field, and even a parcel.”
Sweet, full and long aftertaste. Like what a gyokuro should be.

Gyokuro ’Gokou’ – 2019 – EU organic

Mr. Ookawa’s family-run business and teas have impressed us this year in Japan. Due to our good personal experience, we also recommend this tea to everyone. Ujitawara is a nice place. There are white egrets in the rice fields and the emerald green tea plants are reflected in the water. It is a special kind of gyokuro harvested in front of our noses in a number of ways, a “kind, a field, and even a parcel”. Sweet, full and long aftertaste. Like what a gyokuro should be.

Packaged at the farmer, packed in refrigerated containers of 50 grams.

The Tea Garden; the family; kind of:

For the first time ever, we visited Mr. Ookawa’s tea garden in Ujitawara on May 22, 2018. We noted the date because later, when we tasted the Japanese tea samples from several places at home and selected this tea in a blind test, we dropped off that day in Japan with this family. So they harvested the tea in front of our noses that eventually tasted best to us from a number of similar ones. At that time, we didn’t even know we might be getting a sample. It’s such a personal experience for us…

This gyokuro was shielded for 25 days before taking this year. Shaded and typed by the “Tana method”.

Mr. Ookawa, by the way, is a young producer who makes tea with his parents. Their small plant, like the Japanese style, is mechanized. Also clean and tidy. Threading is done in 3 phases – only two more – with more careful processing, with a more even break in the cell walls, which is sure to give you a better taste.

Ujitawara is a major part of the Uji production area. The humid air of the River Uji can be felt in many places in the hilly landscape.

Gokou is a fragrant variety developed in 1953 in Kyoto Prefecture specifically for local conditions and shading. This variation of tea entered for many tea competitions.

The gyokuro made in this way can be poured 3x. You can raise the water temperature each brew. Use soft water that has been low in minerals and cooled back to tea. We recommend Norda or Volvic water, which is commercially available.

Use a Shibodarashi or Kyushu teapot to make it.
