Based on historical writings, incense sticks came to Japan more than 1400 years ago - along with Buddhism - via China and Korea.
Incense burners were primarily used during religious and other ceremonies, prayers, and meditations, and were also part of the daily routine of samurai warriors.
The natural scents helped achieve peace of mind, which was essential for both samurai and monks.
In the Edo period (1603-1867), incense sticks became much more popular and became part of the entire Japanese culture.
Our incense sticks come directly from Kyoto, from the "Shoyeido" - traditional incense making manufactory, which charmed us with their tradition, kindness and professionalism already when we were there.
Come to our tea shop, where we will be happy to show you - you can "smell" them!
